"Happy birthday, yo!"

"Who the hell greets her boyfriend like that on his birthday?"

"Well, there is me"

*

We are never into that kind of romantic relationship and I like it. You know, those sappy dramas with tears and cheesy lines? Never. I would never ever do that. Our genre (?) is romcom (maybe).

We started going out last year. The starter was nowhere near great, anyway. She was a class president at that time, and, yeah, unlike those girls in dramas where they're supposed to be kind and respectful and shy, she's nothing like that. She's really violent toward us, the boys (the troublemakers, the class clown, the tardies). No one actually dares to argue with her 'cause she always comes up with reason. And then there is me, one of the troublemakers. We argued a lot (every day, tbvh), because I didn't like the way she treated us like we don't have even the tiniest bit of cleverness. Then there's some little accident and in the end we're attracted to each other, so, yeah.

I like her. A lot. But sometimes we will just bicker and fight over something petty, it kinda frustrates me.

Though, the next day we'll simply forget it and everything will be normal again. See? She can't live without me. (but it's mutual so...)

*

"You didn't prepare any surprise for me? Really?"

"Do I look like one to prepare some hugeass party for her boyfriend?"

"No?" She punched Sungyeol's arm lightly and chuckled. Sungyeol looked confused. 'Well, I'm expecting too much'

"I will treat you instead"

"What?"

She rolled her eyes, "I will treat you. Duh"

"Treat me? Really?!" Sungyeol's eyes sparkled, he has been saving money to buy new video games because his parents don't want to buy him one since he never got higher than C in Math. So he didn't have money to buy some delicious (and expensive) meal that he had been craving for. His girlfriend didn't want to buy him one, obviously. But maybe since this is his special day, she wants to do something in order to make him happy (and gain some weight).

"Yeah, really. What do you want?"

Sungyeol's smile grew wider, "Bulgogi! I want bulgogi! And then we will go eat some street food in Myeongdong. And, oh, I want bubble tea, too. And can you buy me pizza for tomorrow?"

She laughed as Sungyeol became wilder, he could be childish at times. She grabbed his arm, "Let's go, then!"

*

It's my first time celebrating my birthday with her.

And it's special.

And for the first time I don't want anything fancy for a gift.

Even that newest video games. (no?)

*

"God! I'm so full I couldn't walk further" Sungyeol sighed as he held his stomach. Jihyun snorted.

"And whose fault is that? I told you to eat slower but what did you do? Being all greedy like that!"

"Whatever, Mom!"

"Is this how you repay me?" She said, irritated.

"Hey, you have to be sincere since it's my special day"

"But you never listen!"

"I'm hungry and that was my first time eating bulgogi since forever, what do you expect?" She stomped her feet and walked away. Sungyeol tried to run after her but, well, what did he say earlier? He's full he can't even walk.

"Shit! Why do we have to fight in a day like this?"

*

'Where are you?'

'Oh, come on!'

'Don't even dare to turn off your phone I warn you!'

'Pls reply!'

'Baby, please? Not today'

'No, no, I mean, not tomorrow either. or next week. or forever!'

'Don't ignore me. Where are you? I'm sorry'

*

"There you are" Sungyeol sighed in relief as he saw his girlfriend seated on a bench, playing with whatever. He sat next to hers.

"I'm sorry"

"Me too. Sorry"

Then there was silence.

"My Mom left this morning"

"What?" Sungyeol looked at her, eyes widened. He knew Jihyun's parents used to fight a lot. He knew it frustrated her. And Sungyeol understands. He's somewhat surprised that for his birthday, she managed to hide her true feelings.

"Mom left us. Maybe when she comes back she will bring a divorce letter with her"

"She won't"

"You don't understand. Don't say anything impossible"

Sungyeol cleared his throat as he turned his gaze from her. She grabbed his hand all of sudden and muttered a sorry.

"You must be tired with me. I'm acting like a bitch all the time" She sounded like she had been crying. Sungyeol couldn't help but to pull her into a hug and she wrapped her arms around his waist immediately.

"Well, you are my bitch" he muttered with a chuckle, a little bit ashamed of himself since he said such cringe-worthy lines. She didn't say anything but crying instead.

"Sshh, I'm here, okay?" he said softly as his hands stroked her hair. His shirt soaked with her tears already. "Just cry. It's better than bottling up your feelings"

A moments later, she had calmed down and Sungyeol never failed to pat her back.

"Don't hide anything from me again. It makes me uncomfortable. What kind of boyfriend do you think I am?" She remained passive and Sungyeol continued.

"This is a very rare moment, right? We usually just bicker all the time, not that I complain"

Silent, was all he got. Sungyeol ignored it.

"I'm going to become a better and capable boyfriend from now on, that's my promise. You too, you bad girl"

He frowned as Jihyun didn't say anything again this time, her body didn't move even a bit. He lowered his head to catch a better look of her and chuckled.

"I'm here saying a promise and you're sleeping? Is my body that comfortable that you fell asleep on me?"

Soon, he piggy-backed her. He planned to drop her in his apartment since it's closer.

"I carried you once during our first date, you remember? I said you were light but now I will take my words back. You're heavy. You said you're 50kg but-" Sungyeol stopped talking when a hand smacked his head.

"Are you awake? You weren't sleeping in the first place, weren't you?"

"Silly. So you really did talking about me behind my back. And it's not about something nice. Wow, what a good and capable boyfriend"

"That's not it. I'm not saying bad things about you behind your back. I'm an honest guy in the first place in case you forget that fact" Jihyun chuckled as she patted Sungyeol's hair, right in the place where she smacked him earlier.

"Good boy. Now put me down" Sungyeol did. Jihyun stood in front of her boyfriend, looking up into his eyes, his beautiful and sparkly eyes. She hates the fact that his eyes are prettier than hers, that she's so short and sometimes her neck hurts because she looks up at him way too much, way too long. She could just wear heels but no thanks, nothing is more comfortable than sneakers.

They still stood there, looking at each other.

"Hey, Nam Jihyun"

"Hm?"

"Since when did you become this pretty?"

"Don't ruin the moment just because you want to look cool for copying Hyunbin's lines in Secret Garden"

"I can be cool without copying anyone"

"Show me"

And he kissed her. He bent down and kissed her.

Jihyun smiled between the kiss. His lips soft on top of hers. It felt good, it felt right and everything is rainbow and unicorns. Though it didn't last long.

"I bent down to match your height. I'm a cool guy" Sungyeol smiled sweetly as he looked at his girlfriend, whose face was pink because of the kiss.

"You are"

"I know another version of what I did just now"

"What?"

"You and me laying down together on a be-"

"Shut up. Let's go home. I don't want to hear that" Sungyeol laughed and put his arm around her shoulder, walking home. His home.
